We have just returned from a fun-filled week at Many Point Scout Camp!  13 boys and 4 adults spent the week camping, swimming, fishing, earning merit badges, climbing and just having a great time outdoors.  The 13 boys earned 35 merit badges total, with several missing only one or two requirements to earn others.  We liked everything about Many Point so much, that we’ve already decided to return there next year for summer camp!

It is truly amazing watching these young men become more and more independent as the week goes on.  They make my job as Scoutmaster very easy by the end of the week, as they are truly in charge and running the Troop themselves.  It is also amazing to watch some of these boys stretch their comfort level as the week goes on.  Some of them totally blew my mind with the things they did.  I hope that each and every Scout or leader that attended the week has some special memories of the week.  I know I do!

We’ve marched in 2 parades this year so far, and we’re marching in another 2 yet!  Spring Fever Days and the 4th of July are done, and we will be marching in the Ma and Pa Kettle Days parade in Kettle River August 9th, and the Cromwell Harvest Fest parade September 6th.  Be sure to cheer for us if you go to any of these parades, it’s always nice to see and hear our supporters.  Speaking of parades, I got a letter from the Moose Lake Chamber informing me that Troop 169 was voted ‘Most Patriotic’ this year at the 4th of July parade!  On top of the honor, we also received a check for $50!  Congrats to those who marched that day!

Now that fall is rapidly approaching, we’re gearing up for some fun fall camping!  We are currently looking at our calendars to see what weekends work best for most, and will have a new camping schedule out soon.  We’ve already collected over 141 pounds of aluminum cans for the Troop from our trailer by the bus garage, and we’re eagerly anticipating that the donations will continue!  Thank you to all who have been gracious enough to donate your cans.

I’m also very excited to announce, that Thomas Miller has just successfully earned his Eagle rank.  This is the final rank, and the highest honor a Boy Scout can earn.  Congratulations Thomas on a job well done!!  Thomas is the first Scout to earn this honor within our troop.

As always, if anyone is interested in joining the Troop, or helping us out in any way don’t hesitate to contact Trish or myself.

                                                                                                        Yours In Scouting,
