The Barnum Senior High Youth Group is going to participate in a mission trip to the North Cheyenne Indian Reservation in southeast Montana August 2-8, 2008. Eleven teens will serve at a Youth Works mission site. Youth Works is a non-denominational organization that conducts mission opportunities for junior and senior high youth. While at the Cheyenne Reservation, Barnum youth will be busy doing minor home repair and running a day program for kids. They will be working alongside some 30 other youth from three different churches. Time is also set aside for devotionals and worship, as well as cultural activities.
When serving the Lord in Montana, the youth will be representing the entire Barnum UMC. They know that they will be kept busy, the weather will most likely be hot and they will see poverty on the scale they may have not seen before. But the teens are enthusiastic about their upcoming opportunity to help others in the name of Jesus. They ask for your prayers now and during their stay in Montana.
While the majority of costs have been covered through money previously raised, the youth are seeking help with covering transportation costs (vehicle rental and gas money). Fundraisers are planned in the upcoming weeks to include a car wash and bagging groceries. If you would like to help, a free will offering basket will be set up in the fellowship hall.
Youth participating are Megan, Sarah, and Katie Myhre, Joel and Erin Koski, Katrina, Jessica, and Justin Newman, Nick White, Darien Bushey, and Alex Johnson. The chaperones are Julie Myhre and Jim Juntti. We can still squeeze another person in the van, so if any other youth (grade 9-12) are interested, please contact Jim Juntti ASAP. |
